The Oracle by Varsity Water Systems is a unique filter design that not only has the ability to remove dissolved contaminants, but goes the extra mile to also prevent additional bacteria contamination. All Oracle air-injected filters include an ozone generator— which sounds like science fiction, but let's go through how ozone works to bring it back to reality.
1- The Power of the Atmosphere
First, let's talk about the filtration process. The Oracle is engineered to target dissolved iron (which causes rust stains) or hydrogen sulfide gas (the reason water smells like rotten eggs) that can be found in well water.
What makes removing dissolved contaminants tricky is you can't touch it. There's no particle that can be caught by a traditional filter. So how do you remove something you can't touch? You force it to change.
When these dissolved materials are exposed to air (oxygen), they oxidize— which is a reaction that causes the molecules to clump together into a solid.
This is why both The Oracle and The Atmos model filters are designed to hold a compressed chamber of air in the top of the tank. Water is forced through this pocket of air, causing the oxidization reaction. Then, the newly formed particles can easily be captured by the filtration media below.
2- The Power of Ozone
Now that we know that oxygen is a key step to filter out these issues, let's talk about how we can take full advantage of it. This is where The Oracle sets itself apart from the average filtration system.
It comes equipped with an ozone generator, who's job it is to take oxygen from the air that's already being pulled into the tank and change it into a powerful tool. Ozone is a super-charged version of oxygen. Instead of O₂, ozone is O₃—three oxygen molecules bound together.
Inside the generator box, a controlled electrical current is turned on that breaks apart the bonded O₂ of the air into loose oxygen molecules. These random single oxygens are eagerly looking to form another bond and will attach to an O
₂, bring it up to O₃.
This might sound familiar from your childhood science classes. When lightning strikes during a storm, it also creates ozone from the environment. You can even smell it if the bolt was close enough.
The ozone generator is doing the same thing, just on a smaller scale.
Here's where things get really interesting. Wherever you find standing water, there is an opportunity for bacteria to grow. Inside the filter tank is no different. Ozone is a naturally aggressive substance that creates an environment no longer friendly to bacteria. Having a regular dose of ozone as part of the filter's process is adding a protective barrier to dramatically reduce bacteria's ability to form.
3- Nature's Way to Better Water
The combination of oxygen to form particles and ozone to prevent bacteria creates an all natural way to treat problematic waters. There's no harsh cleaning chemicals or byproducts. Customers can turn on their tap and never think twice about what's coming out of it.
